Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal

Lasers produce a beam of highly concentrated light that is absorbed by the melanin or pigment located in hair follicles. Light is converted to heat, causing thermal damage to the hair follicles without harming the surrounding skin. The heat has a disabling effect on numerous hair follicles at once that results in the gradual reduction of hair re-growth. Treatment is done once a month.

It’s the most technologically advanced way to remove hair today. Laser hair removal offers a fast solution for men and women with very little discomfort, and represents the most effective way to treat unwanted hair. We have top of the line laser hair removal equipment to serve the Miami and South Florida area.

What areas can I use for laser hair removal?

Most commonly, laser hair removal is used to reduce hair growth on the face, back, legs, forearm, underarm, and bikini line. However, laser hair removal can be used to reduce any amount of hair on any desired area of the body.

How is the preparation for the laser?

Prior to the start of your procedure, the physician may choose to shave or trim the hair on the area. Often, the physician will apply a cooling gel to the treatment area, which will help prevent heat produced by the laser from damaging your skin. In contrast, the physician may use a laser with a special cooling tip that applies a coolant during the procedure. Although the procedure is not typically painful, you may request a topical anesthetic if you are sensitive to pain. You will likely be given eyewear to protect your eyes from the intense light produced by the laser. The length of a laser hair removal procedure depends on the treatment area. The procedure which involves hair removal from small regions, such as the underarm, may take only minutes while a larger area such as the legs, may last approximately one hour.

Who are candidates for treatment?

Millions of men and women have been successfully treated. Treatments are customized according to hair color, texture, and location on the body. Most hair colors can be treated with a high level of patient satisfaction. Treatment is effective on all skin types including dark-skinned individuals of all ethnic origin.

Is treatment painful?

This procedure is tolerated well by most patients, as the laser functions so quickly that only a mild sting is felt. Local anesthesia or pain medication is not required, but topical anesthetic is an option for more sensitive areas.

Are there any possible side effects?

Side effects are rare. Sensitivity, Irritation, or redness sometimes occur at the treatment site, but disappears quickly or within a few days. You will be notified during your consultation if you are susceptible to these side effects. You must limit sun exposure immediately prior to and after treatment. This will greatly minimize the risk of side effects.

What are the results?

You may notice some hairs that appear on the surface of your skin within seven to ten days following treatment, these hairs are usually the ones that have fallen out of hair follicles, impaired during treatment. However, you will notice some new hair growth within a few weeks, as hair follicles that were inactive during treatment re-enter the active growth phase. Therefore, you will most likely undergo multiple treatments spaced approximately four to eight weeks apart. These effects can vary from person to person. Although the number of treatments vary by individual, most people receive approximately six to eight treatments.
